Zeman’s The Sorcerer's Apprentice Embarks on an Autumn Tour
Following a series of sold-out performances at Prague’s Rudolfinum, this unique event — combining a film screening, a live symphony orchestra, and spoken performances by top Czech actors — is now heading on tour across the Czech Republic.
In November 2025, the legendary animated film The Sorcerer's Apprentice will come to life on stage in Brno, Plzeň, Ostrava, Hradec Králové, and České Budějovice.
The original live accompaniment to the cult classic The Sorcerer's Apprentice by director Karel Zeman will be provided by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jan Kučera, along with prominent Czech actors David Švehlík and Karel Dobrý, who will lend their unmistakable voices to the characters of Krabat and his Master. The captivating atmosphere will be enhanced by a children's choir and all sound effects performed live right in Rudolfinum.
Immerse yourself in an unforgettable battle, the story of a boy who, on the threshold of adulthood, is drawn to dark forces and is fascinated by them until he realizes that they can destroy him.
The retelling of the Lusatian Sorbian legend of Krabat from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries in Upper Lusatia, Silesia, is presented in an unparalleled manner by the master of Czech cinema, Karel Zeman, based on the book by Liberec native Otfried Preussler.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice is about the forces of the heart that cannot be changed and that govern our feelings and actions, which can be a source of hatred and love, anger, envy, or joy. They can be used for good or evil (or white and black magic, as it was once said). In this eternal struggle, the path to liberation from the snares of evil is only through strong will and faith in love.
